Best walk behind mower I have ever had

I have a large yard in town and I mow the lawns for several neighbors who have limited mobility. I bought a new Honda HR214 self-propelled lawn mower in 1983 and have used it every year for the past 39 years. During that time, I have broken the handle twice, broken the starter rope twice, replaced two drive wheels, replaced the spark plugs once, and replaced the control cable once. To this day, that mower still starts with a pull. Three years ago, the engine would smoke every time I started it. It would smoke for a few minutes, then stop smoking, and then I could use it to mow the lawn. I say all this to make it clear that when I want a new mower, it has to be another Honda. This year I decided it was time to replace my mower. I cleaned up my old HR214 and gave it to my neighbor who is still using it. Once again, I stumbled upon a Costco online sale and purchased it, took the mower home when it arrived, and immediately started working. I was immediately surprised to see how much better it was than my old mower. It is lighter, has more power, and the dual blades chop the grass clippings finer so it makes excellent mulch. The collection bag is designed to be larger than my old mower so it can hold more grass clippings. The hydrostatic drive has multiple speeds, while my old mower only had two. The Honda engine is not difficult to start, but the electric start is just an added luxury. My only regret is not buying this mower sooner.

This is the best lawn mower I have ever used.

Overall, this is a great mower. The quality of this mower is superior to other brands. The cut quality with the Nexite deck is really great and when mulching the grass it doesn’t seem to collect and stick to the underneath like I’ve seen on other brands.The only place where grass collects is where you open the back flap and reach in where the mulch blocker slides there’s space that always collects grass. One con is it can’t be stored upright. It appears to be built for quality, motor starts right up, handle can be adjusted to fit a tall person or a short person, no issues backing up at all and wheels are smooth. I’ve owned many different brands of mowers over the years and this mower beats them all I couldn’t be happier with this mower, so happy I bought another one. Yes, I bought two since I heard they’re not making the gas version.

Beast of a Mower

I purchased my HRX217HZA mower today and completed my first mow with it on my backyard which is about half an acre. I set at full mulch at 2.5" and my yard looks like a carpet. No clumping, grass was pretty dry as it did rain a bit yesterday. Last mow was 4 days ago with my EGO. The cut today was awesome. It is an electric start and that worked flawlessly and so did the manual start as I used that when I needed to refill the gas. Half way through it needed a refill. The controls are all intuitive and clearly marked. Handle height is easily adjusted (3 different settings). I'm 5'11" and one of the settings was perfect. Wheel adjustment is easy and clearly marked correlated to grass height. The gas gap is nice and wide for easy filling and there is a separate fuel shut off valve as well. The blade stop feature without engine shut off is a nice feature. Clean was easy with my mower scraper and my hose. One minor complaint is when the versamow is set to full mulch there still is about a half inch opening which allows grass to accumulate in the discharge shoot. The manual says this is normal and my guess is the gap is to allow for airflow to create the best vacuum effect to keep clippings up to be mulched. So you have several handfuls of grass to blow out of that shoot when you are done. Sad to see Honda exiting the gas lawnmower segment. Having read that is what spurred me to go pick up the Honda. It is built like a tank for sure, then again it is a Honda that is what one expects!

Honda lawn mowers are the best ever built.

Honda lawn mowers are very quiet, easy to start and operate, I even got the electric start even though it is easy to start with the pull rope. They are also extremely dependable, the motors are the best and the deck cant rust out. it makes me sad to think that Honda has decided to stop manufacturing them.

Honda Lawn Mower

Out of the box, filled up the gas, turned the key and I was mowing. I was impressed with the amount of speed adjustment on the walk-behind. The blades engage or stop without the engine having to stop, which is amazing. I can imagine this mower will last longer than I live on earth.
