On Sept.13, our first store opens in Boston, Massachusetts — offering a 100% guarantee

Our 50th store opens

1993

Our original Gingham fragrance is launched

1996

Sun-Ripened Raspberry becomes our #1 fragrance and stays #1 through 1998. Our 500th store opens, and we hit $1 billion in sales.

1998

Our Cucumber Melon fragrance is introduced, and our first White Barn candle store opens

2000

Our Sweet Pea fragrance is introduced, and our Cucumber Melon is the first fragrance to hit $100 million

2001

Aromatherapy is introduced, and our 1,500th store opens

2002

Our Sweet Pea fragrance becomes and stays our #1 fragrance for three years, and our body care becomes a $1 billion business

2003

Our 1,600th store opens

2004

We hit $2 billion in sales

2005

We launched bathandbodyworks.com

2006

Japanese Cherry Blossom is introduced and is the #1 fragrance for 10 years

2008

Our first store outside the U.S. opens in Canada

2010

Our headquarters received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver certification from USGBC

2012

We grew to $3 billion in sales. We launched our first-ever Candle Day, and Beauty Park opens.

2016

Our Canadian stores hit $200 million in sales

2017

We hit $4 billion in sales, and 3-wick candles hit $700 million in sales

2018

We hit $4.6 billion in sales and $1 billion in operating income

2019

We hit $5 billion in sales, and our iconic fragrance Gingham relaunches

2020

Given COVID-19 pandemic, we closed U.S. and Canada stores for majority of spring season. Many global locations were also closed. We hit $6.4 billion in sales and launched buy online pick up in store.

2021

On Aug. 3, we become a standalone publicly traded company (NYSE: BBWI) and hit $7.9 billion in annual sales with a record profit rate

2022

Japanese Cherry Blossom named a top 100 fragrance of all time by WWD/Beauty Inc. and Gina Boswell named Bath & Body Works CEO
